Our "First Mother" led a life that is relatable to many - facing significant loss as an orphan and then again as a young widow. She was a single mother left to raise five children under the age of eleven. In her elder years, she faced an agonizing battle with breast cancer. Despite these hardships, she raised a son who would become our first president.

A crowd of almost 400 enjoyed Washington Heritage Museums’ ninth annual Bourbon and Boxwood event on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Mary Washington House in Fredericksburg, VA. Our sponsors and guests delight in a garden party with live music, plentiful food, drink, and great company. The event was an exceptionally fun way to financially support all five Museum properties.
Washington Heritage Museums is funded entirely by museum admissions, grants, memberships, sponsorships, and donations. As the organization does not receive continuing city, state, or federal funding, we are truly grateful for our donors and sponsors.

Donor Advised Funds
Washington Heritage Museums is honored to receive gifts made via Donor Advised Funds (DAF). The Washington Heritage Museums EIN is 46-0803504. Donor advised funds have specific tax considerations, so please consult your DAF consultant. Please note that a DAF may not be used to purchase tickets or sponsorships to events due to specific tax laws. Please consult your tax adviser for more information. As you will receive a tax deduction receipt from your DAF provider, you will receive an acknowledgment from WHM, but it will not contain a tax-deductible donation receipt.
Appreciated Securities
Gifts of securities such as stock, mutual fund shares, or other appreciated assets can be a tax-efficient tool for making a donation. Please consult with your tax preparer or financial advisor, but in most instances, you may be able to take a tax deduction for the full fair market value of a gift of securities, avoiding capital gains tax.
